mAh is fiction.
Hours are not.

A 6,000 mAh nameplate doesn't mean longer battery life — silicon efficiency and display power do most of the work, and they vary three-fold between chips. The Battery Ranker times real-world endurance and charging at standardized 25°C, 200 nits, same Wi-Fi, same script. Every device.

3 PILLARS · 0–100 COMPOSITE
PILLAR 01

Five real workloads.

We don't trust synthetic battery benchmarks. Every device runs through five scripted workloads — web browsing, video playback, gaming, GPS navigation, and a mixed-use routine that mimics one honest workday. All five contribute to the index; the mixed-use number is the headline.

PILLAR 02

Standardized to 200 nits.

Brightness is the single biggest variable in battery testing. Every phone is calibrated to 200 cd/m² with our colorimeter before each run — manufacturer 'auto-brightness' adds 30-40% variance and is disabled. Same brightness, same Wi-Fi, same script, every device.

PILLAR 03

Endurance + charging, together.

Charging speed and endurance are inseparable. A phone that lasts 18 hours but charges in 25 minutes beats a phone that lasts 22 hours but needs 90 minutes to top up — for most people, most of the time. The index weights endurance 70%, charging 30%.

WORKLOAD

Web browsing

TO 5% REMAINING
200 NITS · 5G OFF · WI-FI · 50 SCRIPTED PAGES

The most-cited consumer metric, because it's the closest synthetic measure to actual daily use. We loop a fixed routine of 50 representative pages with image and video content.

WORKLOAD

Video playback

TO 5% REMAINING
200 NITS · 1080P AV1 · INTERNAL SPEAKER

The most efficient workload — modern AV1 decoders run almost entirely on dedicated hardware. Video numbers separate efficient SoCs from the rest.

TOP 5 · HOURS / MARGIN
WORKLOAD

Continuous gaming

TO 5% REMAINING
200 NITS · MAX SETTINGS · CLIMATE 25°C

The most stressful battery test in the suite. Gaming is where the chip-efficiency gap shows up most starkly — sustained GPU load surfaces every silicon weakness.

WORKLOAD

Standby drain

OVER 24 HOURS
ALL RADIOS ON · NO NOTIFICATIONS · DISPLAY OFF

The number that determines whether you'll wake up to a full charge. Standby drain is the silent battery killer; phones with poor radio efficiency lose 8–12% overnight.

Twelve hours. Then refill.

200 NITS · CHAMBER 25°C

Each phone ran our mixed-use script for twelve consecutive hours starting at 100% — browser, social, video, camera, navigation, in proportions matched to real telemetry. Then a 0→100% refill on the OEM brick. Both curves are unedited; the verdict is from the lead reviewer after running the test in person.

Best charge-to-endurance ratio in the suite. Twelve hours of mixed use leaves 8% in the tank, and a 12-minute top-up restores half a day.

The endurance champion. Twelve hours of mixed use barely scratches it — still at 13% remaining. The trade-off: 38 minutes to refill that bigger cell.

Best efficiency-per-mAh in the suite — gets a full day from a smaller cell. The charging is the deal-breaker: 92 minutes is the slowest in the top tier.
