Light is everything.

The 200-megapixel headline number tells you almost nothing about what a phone actually captures. Sensor size, lens speed, color science, and computational processing decide the photo — and they have to be measured, not declared. The Camera Benchmark scores 188 frames per phone across six calibrated lighting environments, then puts the results in front of three reviewers grading blind.

Six lighting environments.

Every camera is tested across six calibrated lighting environments — bright daylight (50,000 lux), open shade (10,000 lux), indoor mixed (200 lux), low-light (10 lux), night (1 lux), and astrophotography conditions (sub-0.5 lux). Same lab panel, same script.

The Imatest Master suite plus our custom panel — ColorChecker, resolution chart, motion-blur targets, geometric distortion grid, dynamic-range step wedge. 47 frames per lens, 188 frames per phone with the quad-camera systems. Three runs, median taken.
